Sponsored by the South Chicago Heights Kiwanis Club, the Kiwanis Club of Watseka was formed on May 14, 1926 with 25 charter members. Mr. A. F. Goodyear was charter President with W. C. Volerding, F. M. Brockway, E. T. Riddell, and W. E. Richison serving as officers. The orignal Board of Directors were John Ainsworth, J. T. McBroom, Dr. George Ross, Walter Kraft, Frank Hoke, Arch Fanyo, and Homer Bell.
During the past of 82 years the Watseka Kiwanis Club has served the youth and the community in projects both large and small. Projects supported during our history are: Fall Sports Banquet, Farmer's Night, scholarships, Little League Baseball, Girl's Softball, Special Olympics, Swimming Pool, Legion Park, Spastic Paralysis, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Welles School, Law Enforcement Projects, Disaster Funds, Fourth of July Celebration, Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce membership & banner program, and Harbor House. Funds to support these projects were raised by Flag Sales, Fruit Sales, Pancake and Sausage Day, and Peanut Sales.
